Rangers 'unable to block Igamane move' to Everton as Clement frustration aired

Derek Ferguson

At the start of 2024, former Rangers star Derek Ferguson agreed to become Ibrox News' newest pundit. Ferguson started his career at Ibrox, making his league debut for the club aged 17 in a draw against Hearts in 1984. He eventually left Rangers in 1990 after making 91 league appearances and winning two Scottish titles. Ferguson went on to play for the likes of Hearts, Sunderland and Falkirk before retiring after a spell at Raith Rovers in 2006. Now, Ibrox News is delighted to have the former midfielder sharing his weekly thoughts on all things Rangers.

Rangers will be unable to block Hamza Igamane joining Everton - or any other Premier League club - if the right amount is offered, according to Derek Ferguson.

Everton are showing a strong interest in Igamane this window [TBR Football, 17 December], while Newcastle United are also said to be considering a bid [Mountakhab, 19 December].

An offer of around £10million would be enough to tempt Rangers, in the view of Keith Jackson, and Ferguson agrees there will be no standing in the way of the financially powerful English clubs.

Beyond that, though, the former-player-turned-pundit has aired his frustration at manager Philippe Clement for taking so long to start the Moroccan regularly.

"Rangers could absolutely lose Igamane to one of those two clubs," Ferguson exclusively told Ibrox News. "If an offer is made and the money is right, Rangers can't really stand in his way.

"The frustration is that, and this is where Clement has to come under the spotlight, Igamane should have been used a little bit quicker in the XI.

"When you've got a guy with undoubted quality, who can do things off the cuff and win you games, it's no surprise other teams are looking at him.

"He's flying at the moment and you can see why other clubs would be attracted to him. Until the window closes, there's a real possibility Igamane could leave. But money talks, and English clubs have money. Rangers wouldn't be able to knock that back."

Hamza Igamane looks good enough for Premier League

Igamane really has been a shining light for the Gers in what has been a tough campaign so far - domestically speaking, at least - instantly making himself a fan favourite.

The 22-year-old has 13 goals and two assists in 23 Scottish Premiership and Europa League games combined.

With Manchester United next up, a repeat of his superb showing against Tottenham last month will only attract more suitors.

Rangers can take solace from the fact they are set to make a massive profit on Igamane, but supporters will hope they can get at least another four months out of him yet - or 18 months in the best-case scenario.
