Cyriel Dessers will leave Rangers in the winter transfer window, Barry Ferguson says.

The ex-Gers ace believes the Nigerian striker will want to play regular football after losing his place at Ibrox.

Hamza Igamane is seen as the number one striker, leaving the door open for the 30-year-old's exit.

Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show (17 January), Ferguson said: "He [Dessers] is 30 years of age now. He probably wants to play regular football. I've seen his interview and I thought he spoke really well. He understands that Igamane is doing well. He's supporting him.

"But he wants to play regular first-team football. In this moment, the number one striker is Igamane. Over the next couple of weeks, Dessers will leave Rangers."

Rangers need reinforcements after Cyriel Dessers transfer

Dessers doesn't have the best reputation among the Ibrox faithful, making his exit a no-brainer for the hierarchy at the Light Blues if they want to raise funds.

The Bears have already made one signing of the winter transfer window but could arguably do with a few more bodies for the second half of the season.

Dessers has frustrated many with his profligacy, leading to Philippe Clement making a change up front.

After the Nigerian attacker's disappointing displays, the Belgian manager placed faith in Igamane, who hasn't let him down.

Rangers have thrived since the Moroccan centre-forward's inclusion in the starting lineup as they look to have a fruitful second half of the campaign.

The 22-year-old can fire the Glaswegian outfit to the Scottish Cup if he continues his fine goalscoring form.

Dessers is still important to the squad dynamic, though, and the Gers will need reinforcements if they sell him in the coming weeks.

Danilo's fitness issues will also evidently play a part in the Light Blues' decision to cash in on the 30-year-old.

The transfer saga will be one to keep an eye on.
