Clement rage understandable after Rangers controversy v Hibernian
Philippe Clement was right to feel aggrieved after Ianis Hagi gave away a penalty as Rangers drew against Hibernian, Marvin Bartley says.
The former Hibs midfielder understands the Belgian manager’s frustration as his former side were awarded a controversial penalty in the 3-3 draw on Sunday (5 January).
Hagi has been praised for tracking back and challenging Josh Campbell before John Beaton pointed to the spot.
Speaking on BBC Sportscene (5 January), Bartley said: “Hagi actually does really well trying to track back and get back in. It’s one of those, Hibs will be absolutely delighted it’s a penalty kick. If it’s at the other end, Rangers will be appealing for it as well. If it’s against you, you do feel it’s harsh.
“I can understand from Clement’s point of view why he was raging at that decision.”
Philippe Clement raging after Rangers incident
Not long ago, the Gers were on the receiving end of another controversial decision in the Premier Sports Cup final that made headlines.
During extra time at Hampden Park, Vaclav Cerny was brought down inside the box by Liam Scales, but VAR failed to spot the incident.
The Light Blues looked in control at Easter Road before Martin Boyle equalised for the hosts from the spot, with Hamza Igamane’s third also cancelled out.
Rangers dropped points again in the Scottish Premiership and are further behind Celtic once more in the league table.

Igamane was on fire against Hibernian, but the Moroccan’s perfect hat-trick wasn’t enough to hand the Bears three points at Easter Road.
Inconsistency has been a massive issue for Clement in recent weeks after some topsy-turvy results and performances.
While the Belgian manager bought himself some time after the Old Firm derby win, the 50-year-old could be out of a job if results in the Europa League and Scottish Cup go against the Bears.
