The SFA have been urged to dismiss the referees at the centre of the Rangers VAR controversy.

The Gers were defeated by their arch-rivals in the Premier Sports Cup final on Sunday (15 December) in a penalty shoot-out but were denied a blatant penalty in extra-time.

Vaclav Cerny was brought down by Liam Scales as he went into the box with replays showing that the contact was in the penalty area.

However, referee John Beaton awarded a free-kick and VAR officials Alan Muir and Frank O’Connor failed to overturn his clear and obvious error.

That decision was lambasted by Four Lads Had A Dream in a post on X, saying: "An apology is all well and good, at the end of the day it’s another decision which has cost us in a final.

"Crucially, It’s another decision involving the same officials.

"Frank Connor & Allan Muir’s ‘incompetence’ should mean the end of their officiating at this level."

Duo punished as Rangers supporters rightfully fuming

The Scootish Football Association have also issued an apology to the Light Blues about the non-penalty call but that will not make supporters feel any better.

The Gers were impressive in the Hampden Park contest, taking an early lead through Nedim Bajrami before fighting back to equalise twice.

The Light Blues will feel that the contest should never have gotten to a penalty shoot-out with the botched penalty call.

With a decision of this magnitude in a cup final between two of the most fiercest rivals in world football, it is hard to see how the duo come back from that.
