Rangers and Celtic are likely to be fined by the Scottish FA for the ugly scenes leading up to the Scottish League Cup final, Dan Plumley has said.

Fans clashed in the streets of Glasgow ahead of the Hampden Park showdown, with pyrotechnics also used before the 3-3 draw, followed by a 5-4 defeat on penalties.

Plumley, a football finance expert, admitted that both clubs likely expected scenes like this, with most of it unfortunately outside of their control.

"I think it is likely, history tells us that," he exclusively told Ibrox News.

"We've said it before with other examples with Rangers and other examples that have happened in Scotland.

"I guess it was always likely to happen in a game like this, both clubs were likely expecting it, I'm not saying it's right.

Rangers and Celtic to be fined

"You can see in these types of occasions and the game lived up to some of that hype, what a spectacle for Scottish football more wider and unfortunate for Rangers to lose out as they did.

"Clubs will try and avoid it, they will try and say to fans, 'We need you to not do these things' but ultimately that's outside of their control.

"It's likely we will see some kind of fine on both sides."

The passion of both fan bases makes the Old Firm derby, but as so often happens, it is usually taken too far both before and after they meet.

Tom English predicted that the government could now get involved after the embarrassing actions of those so-called "ultras" groups.
