Ferguson cannot believe what 'Crazy' Rangers star did v Ross County

Derek Ferguson was left shocked after Jack Butland mistimed a touch which nearly handed Ross County a goal on Sunday.

The Bears cruised to a 3-0 victory at the Global Energy Stadium on 8 December, but there were some nervy moments in defence for Philippe Clement.

Butland was left scrambling after a poor touch in the first half, managing to get rid of it before the Staggies were able to take advantage.

Speaking on BBC Sportsound [8 December, 12:18], Ferguson was not pleased: "It sounds crazy this, but a little incident like that, it gives the opposition confidence.

"It starts to give your own players in front of you little doubts, so just not the right thing to do." 

Jack Butland needs to be reliable for Rangers

The Gers goalkeeper has been ever-present in the team since joining and has been fairly reliable with nine clean sheets from 15 games this season.

However, this is not the first time the 31-year-old has been caught out at the back as he gave away a goal against FCSB in similar circumstances but was saved as the officials decided to rule it out.

With his side ahead in games, the most important thing for Butland should be to ensure he is doing his job to add to his clean sheet tally while also allowing the Gers to have some breathing space.

Therefore, for an experienced keeper to be making this kind of mistake is not what you'd expect and Clement will no doubt be having words despite the win.

As Rangers look to turn their season around in the Scottish Premiership, the big names within the squad like Butland must be at the top of their game.

He will learn from this, no doubt.
