Rangers could sack Philippe Clement if he fails to beat Celtic next week, according to Andrew Newport.

The Gers are yet to beat their arch-rivals under the Belgian manager and the two sides meet in the League Cup final on 15 December.

After a poor start to the season, Clement's side find themselves 11 points adrift of their Glasgow rivals and seven points behind second-place Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership.

After the club held their AGM yesterday (5 December), Daily Record reporter Newport believes that the Belgian could be sacked if his side cannot beat the league leaders, saying: "There’s a feeling his number could be up if his sixth attempt at recording a first victory over Celtic fails in the Premier Sports Cup final a week on Sunday - coincidentally the day before incoming CEO Patrick Stewart takes up his new gig."

Clement is on borrowed time at Rangers

It would seem to be only a matter of time before Clement loses his seat in the Ibrox dugout, results have not been good enough this season.

The Gers have papered over the cracks with wins in their last two games but the Belgian is still under heavy pressure.

Derek Ferguson told Ibrox News that he believes Clement will be sacked if his side lose any of their next three domestic fixtures including the clash with Celtic.

The Belgian hit back to a question about his side's performance at the AGM, saying that “the legacy of Rangers is winning. The day we lower that bar, Rangers is not Rangers anymore. That's my message for the dressing room."

That drew a round of applause, but it must translate to the pitch and right now that is not happening.

Without a massive turnaround in results, it looks like Clement's reign is coming to an underwhelming conclusion.
