Rangers have a potential super-sub on their hands in the form of Cyriel Dessers after what he did against Kilmarnock on Wednesday.

Dessers came off the bench in the 66th minute of their Premiership match with Philippe Clement's side already 4-0 up, finding the net just three minutes later and netting a second within another eight at Ibrox.

With Danilo and Hamza Igamane selected to start up front as part of a fluid front four alongside Vaclav Cerny and Ianis Hagi, the former trio all found the net as Hagi added two assists.

But after Dessers – who has been the Gers' go-to striker in almost every game this season – made his mark as a substitute, Clement may just have realised what the perfect setup is for his options up front.

Cyriel Dessers adds to Rangers cause off the bench v Kilmarnock

Dessers' record so far this season at Ibrox looks good on paper put is patchy in reality, with 12 goals from 18 starts a respectable figure given the Light Blues' struggles in the box this term.

However, Dessers has been the root cause of those struggles in the eyes of many a pundit, being slammed for a lack of mobility and his hold-up play as the lone striker in Clement's 4-2-3-1 setup.

Bringing the Nigerian out of the firing line now has proven to be perfect timing for all parties, lifting the pressure off the striker's shoulders while also allowing Gers' other options to thrive up front.

With Danilo netting his first goal in a long, long time following months on end struggling through injury, and Hamza Igamane continuing to show exactly why he was worth the £1.7million punt this summer.

Dessers netting off the bench as the Light Blues look to pile on the pressure paid dividends against Killie and could do so again in the biggest of games, a tantalising prospect with a League Cup Final coming up.
