Steven Gerrard's return to Rangers may now be scuppered as Michael Beale looks set to join his coaching staff at Al-Ettifaq.

The ex-Gers boss has been linked with a return to Ibrox in recent weeks as Philippe Clement continues to come under fire from supporters after a run of poor form.

This may have resulted in him departing the Middle East but with the latest development, that may be unlikely.

Michael Beale scuppers Steven Gerrard Rangers return

The former QPR manager was a member of the Liverpool legend's coaching staff during his time at Ibrox and with Aston Villa, being highly rated for his influence.

It is safe to say that his reputation has suffered a massive blow after spells with the Light Blues and then Sunderland in the Championship.

Now Beale has been without a club since February and could be making his first steps back into the world of coaching at Al-Ettifaq [The Athletic].

With him joining Gerrard in Saudi Arabia, this would point towards a longer stay for the manager despite his job being under pressure right now.

This could rule the Englishman out of the running for the role for the Gers if Clement is to get the sack in the coming weeks or months.

As a result, the door could be left open wider for someone like Derek McInnes who has also been linked with the potentially soon-to-be vacant manager role.
