Steven Gerrard does not appear keen on leaving Al-Ettifaq imminently despite links of a return to Rangers.

Asharq Al-Awsat reported on 17 November that despite backroom exits at the Saudi Pro League club and them being in 12th place, the Englishman wants to fight and succeed there after holding talks with the hierarchy.

The Daily Record then claimed on 18 November that this could mean he's no longer in the running to replace Philippe Clement.

Rangers must avoid re-hiring Steven Gerrard

Gers should steer clear of re-hiring Gerrard due to his managerial trajectory post his Ibrox departure.

After initially showing promise by winning the Scottish Premiership with Rangers in 2021, his stint at Aston Villa was underwhelming, culminating in his dismissal after just 11 months.

His subsequent move to Al-Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia has also not lived up to expectations, with the team struggling in performance and facing relegation threats.

These experiences suggest that Gerrard's approach and tactical acumen might not yet be suited for the challenges of high-stakes management.

While he has achieved success in Glasgow, this team appears to be in need of a rebuild due to the current mess and someone who can imprint a clear footballing identity.

Hopefully, plans are in place for a replacement for Philippe Clement as things cannot continue to go on like this.
