Borna Barisic is set to leave Trabzonspor just five months after departing Rangers, according to the Daily Record.

Citing reports in the Turkish media, the Scottish publication [17 November] have revealed discussions are underway to mutually terminate Barisic's deal with the club, leaving him free to move elsewhere in January as a free agent.

Barisic, 32, made 236 appearances at Ibrox before moving to the Super Lig alongside Gers teammate John Lundstram.

He has started just once in the league for Trabzon, playing just four minutes of football since September.

Barisic will have been eagerly anticipating his change of scenery having left Rangers at the end of his contract, having played just 20 times in the Scottish Premiership last season.

But the grass has certainly not been greener, as opposed to Lundstram's start in Trabzon which has seen him make 11 Super Lig appearances.

A swift mutual termination of Barisic's deal will allow him to begin a fresh chapter elsewhere, having recently turned 32 and beginning to see lucrative long-term deals at a premium.

Among those brought in as reinforcements to replace Barisic was Jefte, who appears stronger going forward and has been subject to criticism in certain moments defensively.

A section of the Ibrox support may be curious to the idea of an unexpected return, but many will feel the ship has sailed with their former Croatian ace.
