Oscar Cortes is surely close to a return from injury and Rangers fans will be buzzing to see him back on the pitch once again.

The Colombian winger has only made 10 appearances since joining on a six-month loan from Lens in January before having his deal extended until the end of the 2024/25 campaign.

With the new deal including an obligation to buy [Official website], Philippe Clement will be buzzing to see the 20-year-old progressing in his return from injury, having been out since September.

The player took to his Instagram story [15 November] to show a video of him training hard in the gym with the caption "We continue", and while he is not back on the pitch, it is a big step forward.

Although he has only made a handful of appearances for the Gers, Cortes has already proven himself as a rather talented attacking outlet, one who could help boost Clement's side up the league table.

Oscar Cortes closing in on Rangers return after new injury setback?

There would not have been so many eyes and so much expectation on the player if the Gers had not agreed to a permanent deal at the end of the current season.

However, with the financial situation already rather dire at Ibrox, Clement needs one of the most promising forwards to recover and be available for more than a few games at a time.

Cortes has been joined by Tom Lawrence and Rabbi Matondo in the medical room, with Danilo, Ridvan Yilmaz, Danilo and Dujon Sterling also spending time on the treatment table so far.

The manager should, of course, not hide behind these injuries as an excuse for the Light Blues' form this season, but it certainly does nothing to help him as the pressure rises at Ibrox.

The main priority will be keeping Cortes fit, rather than rushing back into the starting XI, but with the important fixtures building up for the Gers, he could be an important figure later in the campaign.
