Roger Hannah believes Philippe Clement will be sacked if Rangers cannot beat Motherwell in the Scottish League Cup semi-final on Sunday.

The Gers are set to take on the Steelmen at Hampden Park on Sunday 3 November, with a place in the final against Celtic or Aberdeen ahead of them.

Clement is under considerable pressure following a 2-1 defeat to Aberdeen at the Pittodrie Stadium, and any further slip-ups could mark the end of his tenure at Ibrox.

Speaking via The Scottish Sun's Go Ballistic show [1 November], Hannah said: "You go back seven years, Pedro Caixinha was sacked after a League Cup semi-final defeat to Motherwell.

"I think the same fate will await Philippe Clement if Rangers do not win on Sunday. If Rangers lose to Motherwell at Hampden Park, I think it might be all over."

Philippe Clement set for Rangers sack after League Cup clash?

Despite signing a three-year deal at Ibrox, former manager Caixinha lasted just 229 days in the job, earning the title of the shortest-serving manager in the club's history.

While Clement has passed the year mark in Scotland, fans will be surprised if he manages to extend his stay much further as the water continues to rise around his ankles.

The Gers are now nine points adrift from the top of the Scottish Premiership table, with the Hoops and the Dons seemingly escaping the rest of the pack.

For a club such as Rangers, this should absolutely not be allowed, but with so many other concerns emerging at Ibrox this season, it seems to be a sinking ship without a captain at the moment.

A loss to Motherwell in the League Cup semi-final would likely be the last straw for Belgium, even despite claims that his "project" will take a while to produce any positive results.

Fans are just becoming more and more frustrated with the performances on the pitch, and also Clement's excuses after each defeat, and the ongoing drama behind the scenes is doing nothing to help.
