Cyriel Dessers' aimless display against Aberdeen on 30 October represented the "leaderless" environment at Rangers, Kris Boyd has said.

Speaking on Sky Sports Scotland at full-time (30 October), Boyd left no stone unturned in his analysis of Dessers at Pittodrie, criticising his lack of movement to make something happen in the box.

A moment of individual brilliance saw the Gers equalise midway through the second half in their eventual 2-1 defeat, but that came from Nedim Bajrami, with Dessers instead hooked for Hamza Igamane late on.

Boyd said: “Cyriel Dessers, all he wanted to do was fight with the defenders!

“When the ball’s wide, you’re thinking ‘get yourself in the box’ – you’ve a chance of scoring a goal by the way – if you get yourself in the box, you have a chance of scoring.

“You need to make defenders work, you need to move. He’s concentrating on everything else other than what he should be.

“But listen, he’s not alone, there’s loads out there that are absolutely miles off it – from top to bottom right now, Rangers are leaderless.”

Cyriel Dessers display sums up the rot setting in at Rangers

Despite going behind twice at Pittodrie – the second being the goal which leaves them trailing Aberdeen and Celtic by nine points in the title race – Bajrami's goal was their only shot on target in the second half.

In all but three of the Gers' 17 games in all competitions so far this season, Dessers has been Philippe Clement's choice up front, and despite starting in superb form, is now seven games without a goal.

With Danilo still on the way back from his latest injury issues, and new signing Igamane very much a project player with just one goal in Light Blue so far, the club are clearly over-reliant on Dessers.

However, instead of the Nigerian international stepping up to that mantle, it appears Dessers is simply not up to the responsibility, begging the question as to why he wasn't replaced in the summer.

Plenty of interested clubs reared their heads as the Gers did likewise for Lawrence Shankland, and despite a strong start to the season, it's becoming evident that not moving Dessers on could prove to be the defining failure of Clement's time in charge.
