Ally McCoist could not help but laugh after Jeff Stelling destroyed Rangers with a quick-witted one-liner live on air.

Philippe Clement's side were condemned to a 1-0 defeat at Rugby Park on Sunday 20 October, losing with a lacklustre display against Kilmarnock and missing the chance to close the gap.

The Gers could have moved within three points of Celtic and Aberdeen, who faced each other in a 2-2 draw on Saturday 19 October, but are now six points adrift after eight games instead.

Following a whole segment about the Gers' defeat to the Killie on talkSPORT [21 October, 6:43am], Stelling said: "Up next, we'll talk about football," leaving his co-host in stitches.

Rangers and Philippe Clement disappoint in Kilmarnock defeat

For all of the Gers' efforts at Rugby Park, Clement's side had the same number of shots on target as the Killie [FotMob], and Marley Watkins made it count in the final third.

Thanks to the defeat, the Light Blues are now just one point ahead of fourth-placed Dundee United and only one point further away from the relegation qualification spots than the top of the league.

The criticism of Clement is absolutely warranted, even despite three consecutive victories in the Scottish Premiership before the Kilmarnock clash, and pressure is beginning to mount.

The trip to Pittodrie to face Aberdeen at the end of October has already been mooted as a potential game to mark his fate at Ibrox, but he must face FCSB in the Europa League and St Mirren first.

While it may seem a little early to rule the Gers out of the Scottish Premiership title race, they have shown little on the pitch to warrant much confidence against Celtic and Aberdeen.
