Rangers have no immediate plans to seal free agent transfers after the summer window closed, according to Football Scotland.

The news outlet reported on 18 September that despite Philippe Clement hinting at free transfers previously, Nils Koppen and has recruitment team have not been tasked with finding bargains outside the window.

No scouting is being done for free agents between now and the January transfer window.

The report reads: "Manager Philippe Clement had previously hinted that freebies could be signed when the transfer window slammed shut on August 31 with the club recently linked with a move for Davy Klaassen.

"The Dutchman would ultimately move back to Ajax but sources have told Football Scotland that the Ibrox club are no longer actively seeking new players within the free agency market.

"It's understood the recruitment team, headed up by chief Nils Koppen, have not been tasked with finding any bargains at this stage of the campaign with the manager and his staff content to work with the squad at their disposal."

Rangers making a mistake by not considering free agents

The club's decision not to pursue free agents after the summer transfer window, despite Clement's earlier openness to such moves, could be seen as a strategic oversight.

Adding experienced players, even on short-term deals, provides immediate tactical benefits and a positive influence in the dressing room.

Clement's initial willingness to consider free transfers suggested an acknowledgement of potential squad gaps that could benefit from seasoned input.

A versatile player capable of filling multiple roles and being a squad player would certainly not hurt the club's chances of winning the title.

By not actively scouting or signing free agents, Rangers miss out on low-risk options to bolster their squad depth and tactical flexibility.

Hopefully, this is not a decision that they live to regret months down the line as it may be too late to undo the damage.
