Rangers have officially confirmed John Gilligan's appointment as director in new paperwork submitted to Companies House.

The Ibrox documentation was confirmed on 19 September after the sudden resignation of John Bennett left the club without a chairman.

Gilligan's new role isn't permanent, however, with the Gers still on the hunt for a suitable replacement as the 61-year-old takes the responsibility on an interim basis.

John Gilligan paperwork emerges at Rangers

The last few seasons for Rangers and their fans have been something of a rollercoaster.

Bennett's sudden resignation [The Athletic, 14 September] no doubt took fans by surprise and while many may be happy with the news, some are just wishing for some stability.

That shouldn't be too much to ask, especially for a club of the Gers' stature.

However, that's not been the case and most fans have been left underwhelmed by both the transfer business and the performances of their team.

Despite extending his contract earlier in the season, Clement's future feels like it's hanging on thin ice, with pressure mounting every week at Ibrox.

Gilligan's appointment feels like a smart move but with people such as Dave King circling for the Ibrox hot seat [Scottish Daily Mail, 17 September], fans have a right to be worried about what the future could hold.

Hopefully, the right decision is made, something not done too often at Ibrox recently.
