Rangers appear to be running out of time if they are to hijack the Hull City deal to sign former Brighton midfielder Steven Alzate.

Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri reported on 4 September that Hull are closing in on signing him and the 25-year-old Colombia international has already undergone his medical.

Football Scotland claimed on 4 September that Alzate is linked with a move to Ibrox while talkSPORT journalist Dan Bardell had backed Gers to secure his services back in June.

Tavolieri wrote on X: "Hull City Football Club now working in order to complete Steven Alzate on a free agent move. Alzate’s keen on the move.

"Medical tests took place this Wednesday afternoon already for Steven Alzate with official announcement expected to take place in the next 24 hours."

Rangers must look to sign Steven Alzate on a free transfer

Gers could attempt a last-minute hijack for Alzate by leveraging their higher profile and the promise of first-team football in a more competitive league along with the chance to play in Europe.

Given Hull City's interest and Alzate's medical, Rangers would need to act swiftly in the next few hours as they may have less than 24 hours before he's off the market.

They could look to offering better personal terms or a more attractive role within the team that aligns with his ambitions for regular play and development.

Alzate's experience in the Premier League with Brighton, coupled with his recent loan spells in Belgium, equips him with the versatility and tactical awareness that could be pivotal for the Ibrox outfit.

His ability to operate in multiple midfield roles provides tactical flexibility, crucial for adapting to various match scenarios in the league as well as the Europa League.

Furthermore, his vision in passing and capability to progress the ball could significantly enhance Gers' midfield, offering a blend of creativity and defensive solidity.

Clement would undoubtedly love to have a player like him on board and this would be a low-risk and potentially high-reward signing.
