Rangers manager Philippe Clement has driven Gordon Dalziel "insane" with his comments after the Old Firm clash with Celtic.

The Light Blues have given their Glasgow rivals an early five-point lead in the Premiership title race after they were well beaten 3-0 at Parkhead in the final game before the September international break.

While the majority of pundits and supporters were critical of the display, Clement was quick to remain positive in his post-match reaction, much to the frustration of Clyde 1 pundit Dalziel who was left baffled.

Speaking on The Open Goal YouTube channel (5 September, 21:30) Si Ferry asked: "You were critical of Clement's comment after the game. Do you stand by that? Are you still baffled?"

Dalziel replied: "I canny get it, it drives me insane. I know as a Rangers manager he can't come out and say look hands up, they battered us, this and that, I totally understand that.

"But you can come out and address it in a different way and say we have to do the dirty part of the game better, [Rabbi] Matondo chasing, we have to bits and pieces better there, we were a wee bit slack in possession.

"You can dress it up like that, but for me don't come out and start going on about stuff because everyone can see it.

"Every Rangers fan can see it as well. Michael Beale tried it with Rangers supporters and told the story of the three bears. I'm a big believer that you can put lipstick on a pig, it's still a pig. It's as simple as that so come out and address it the right way."

Will Philippe Clement exit Ibrox after Rangers Old Firm loss v Celtic?

As Dalziel suggests, every supporter who watched that game at Parkhead knows that Rangers were nothing short of awful, as they have been in most recent Old Firm clashes.

Clement can do what he wants to attempt to dress it up, but even the most positive of fans will know that there is a massive gulf in class between the Light Blues and the Hoops at this moment in time, off and on the pitch.

Inside, the Gers boss will probably know that himself, but he will feel as though there is little benefit in coming out and slamming his own players' performances in front of a camera so quickly after a defeat.

Hopefully, the hairdryer treatment will be saved for inside the changing room because the players have to know that the standard of performance over the last few weeks is simply not good enough.
