Rangers attacker Scott Wright is set to join Birmingham City for what's likely to be a "modest" transfer fee, according to Football Scotland.

The news outlet reported on 28 August that the 27-year-old has travelled south for a medical and will soon join the English club permanently.

Wright almost moved to Turkish side Pendikspor last summer but ended up staying at Ibrox for another season.

Scott Wright leaving Rangers is undoubtedly the right decision

Wright, despite moments of promise, has not consistently met the expectations required for a player in Gers' first team, particularly in a squad aiming to challenge for major honours.

His transfer represents an opportunity for the club to free up the payroll and potentially reinvest in players who might offer more in terms of immediate impact or future potential.

This move not only trims the wage bill, which is crucial to be financially stable, but also signals a shift towards a more dynamic, perhaps younger, or tactically fitting squad.

Moreover, the fee, though modest, could contribute to the war chest for new signings, allowing Rangers to pursue targets that better fit the envisioned tactical setup or bring higher market value.

This rebuild, therefore, isn't just about removing players but about creating a financially and competitively robust squad.

Hopefully, the club have a replacement ready to come in as there's not long left before the window closes.
