Rangers crunch talks ongoing with Glasgow Police as Celtic farce rumbles on
Noel Egan expects that Rangers are in crunch talks with the Glasgow Police as issues over away supporters attending the Old Firm derby rumble on.
The ex-FIFA official feels that there is more to the situation than meets the eye.
As reported by The Scottish Sun (23 August), the Gers have applied to Glasgow City Council for planning permission to install safety nets at Ibrox for high-risk fixtures such as the Old Firm.
The Old Firm lockout is set to continue for the first two matches between Rangers and Celtic this season. The Hoops have claimed that Rangers could not offer any guarantees over away supporters visiting Ibrox in January.
And Egan – speaking exclusively to Ibrox News – has shared his thoughts on the ongoing saga.
“Again, there is talk that Ibrox wouldn’t have been ready to take the Celtic supporters anyway,” Egan said.
“There is also talk that there is financing to be prepared for paying for the policing for away supporters coming into it. There is more to this than meets the eye. I don’t think fining them will do any good.
“I am absolutely certain that they will be sitting down with the Glasgow Police. This is a collective decision and I know that agreements have been made with Celtic in the past.
“Therefore, to come out and not allow Celtic supporters to attend the game, I think there is more to it, and I think this is a monetary thing.”
Rangers and Celtic struggle to find compromise as Old Firm saga rumbles on
Supporters in Glasgow will no doubt be growing tired of this ongoing saga.
It is in the best interest of everybody involved to find a solution to this issue. The Old Firm derby is one of the most engaging and exciting derbies in European football.
However, the match loses some of that special quality when away supporters aren’t present. Whether you’re watching on television or you’re at the ground, the atmosphere just isn’t the same without away fans.

Therefore, supporters will be hopeful that those talks are ongoing and progressing positively.
