Gordon Dalziel has admitted he has been left baffled by the latest developments surrounding Danilo at Rangers this summer.

The Brazilian was handed his first start of the season against St Johnstone last time out, having not made a competitive appearance so far this season despite being named on the bench in every game.

While the 25-year-old came through the first half unscathed before being replaced by Cyriel Dessers, Open Goal pundit Dalziel admitted he was confused as to why Clement threw Danilo in the deep end.

Speaking on the Open Goal YouTube channel (22 August, 39:25) he said: "You've got Danilo, that just baffles the life out of me man.

"I can't understand what's happening there. Danilo, what is he, 45 minutes this season? He doesn't bring him on at all then starts on him on Saturday.

"I can't grasp that can you?"

It does seem strange that after weeks of sitting on the bench without being introduced, Clement decided to throw Danilo into the starting XI for a relatively routine League Cup clash against St Johnstone.

Perhaps the Rangers boss felt that sort of fixture was the right opportunity to hand the 25-year-old some much-needed minutes, but surely he would have been of more use in the Champions League qualifying clash against Dynamo Kyiv?

Whether or not there is more going on behind the scenes with the Brazilian than meets the eye is anyone's guess, but most fans will be just as baffled by recent events as Dalziel.

Hopefully, Danilo can finally begin to put the injury issues that have plagued him so far this season behind him and really kick on to offer some support to Dessers at the top end of the pitch.

If he now goes missing again, it will only raise more questions for supporters and pundits alike.
