Tiago Gouveia has been ordered by Benfica to remain at the club amid transfer links to Rangers, according to A Bola.

The Scottish Sun reported on 21 August, citing the Portuguese news outlet, that Gers are one among many clubs to have shown an interest in the 23-year-old winger.

It's understood that the Ibrox outfit have even held talks with Benfica [Bruno Andrade], but their stance appears to be firm on his exit before the 30 August deadline.

Rangers can apply pressure on Benfica by agreeing personal terms with Tiago Gouveia

Gers can apply pressure on Benfica by agreeing on personal terms with Gouveia, which could lead him to submit a transfer request.

This strategy leverages the player's desire to move, potentially forcing Benfica's hand.

If Gouveia feels his future lies elsewhere, especially with a club like the Ibrox outfit, his request to leave could create internal pressure within Benfica, signalling to the Portuguese side that keeping an unhappy player might not be beneficial for team morale or performance.

Moreover, with transfer windows being time-sensitive, Benfica might be more inclined to negotiate if they see a player's commitment to leaving is firm, especially if Gers are prepared to meet his wage demands without an immediate transfer fee, making the deal financially appealing or at least neutral for Benfica's balance sheet.

This approach could make Benfica reconsider their stance, potentially leading to a last-minute deal.

However, a decision must be made soon as there are less than ten days left before the window closes.
