Derek Ferguson has shared his verdict on Rangers' new boy Jefte, saying the Brazilian is “excellent” during the 1-1 draw with Dynamo Kyiv on Tuesday.

Jefte, 20, was signed on a four-year deal from Fluminense in May with Rangers paying £2million plus add-ons.

Ferguson's praise comes after the left-back was brought on for Scott Wright at halftime for the Gers’ Champions League qualifier against the Ukrainians in Poland.

Speaking on BBC Sportsound (6 August, 20:05) Ferguson said the following: “There was a lot of talk before the game about Jefte starting ahead of Scott Wright.

“He’s excellent, he’s got pace and strength and I thought Yilmaz and Jefte would be a good partnership”

Jefte could stake a claim to start the next Rangers game

Although the Brazilian didn’t start the tie, there’s no reason why Phillipe Clement should look over him against Motherwell on 10 August.

As soon as he was brought onto the pitch, the left-hand side of the pitch was far more stable and he offered Yilmaz a lot of support.

The left-back joined the club near the start of the summer transfer window and was a long-term target for the club.

His addition alongside that of Connor Barron is one of few that could actually have an impact on the Gers’ first team.

The left-back is a younger replacement for the recently exited Borna Barisic and the fact that he can be an option on the wing also adds to his qualities.

Whilst the game against Dynamo failed to live up to the Gers’ usual standards, Shoukd Jefte be entrusted to start against Motherwell, Clement could be more likely to get a result.
