Neil McCann believes that Rangers will sign a new striker suggesting that Danilo isn't ready to feature.

The Gers began their Scottish Premiership campaign with a goalless draw against Hearts with Cyriel Dessers starting up top.

After failing to get on the scoresheet, Steven Thompson questioned whether it was a surprise to see the Nigerian start on BBC Sportscene (3 August).

Thompson asked: "Do you think Rangers fans will be surprised to see him start the season as the main striker?"

McCann replied: "I think they will be looking for someone else to come in because I don't think that Danilo is ready."

Danilo could be replaced by Rangers

The Gers did lack a cutting edge against Hearts with Dessers having multiple clear-cut chances but failed to score on the day.

Last season's top scorer at Ibrox did hit the woodwork from close range but would have expected better with the opportunities that came his way.

It may have come as a surprise that Philippe Clement didn't opt to bring Danilo on later in the game in place of the 29-year-old.

After suffering a season-ending injury last campaign, the Brazilian may be being looked after before being rushed back into the spotlight.

With that being said, the Light Blues can't have any passengers this campaign as they look to close the gap to Old Firm rivals Celtic in the title race.

Cyriel Dessers could leave Rangers this summer.

Dessers has to step up to the plate once again and look to rediscover his form from his debut season in Scotland.
