Philippe Clement was left with few positives after Rangers were condemned to a 2-1 pre-season defeat against Birmingham City on Wednesday (24 July).

A James Tavernier own goal saw the League One side take the lead after nine minutes, which was eventually doubled by Alfie May, who notched 23 league goals for Charlton Athletic last season.

Scott Wright provided one of the only bright sparks for the Gers during the defeat, combining well with out-of-favour Cyriel Dessers to halve the deficit, though it was not enough to avoid another loss.

The Light Blues had nowhere to hide at the St Andrews Stadium, facing a third consecutive defeat after 2-1 and 2-1 losses to Ajax and Manchester United over the last two weeks.

Wright, who has been linked with a move away from Ibrox once again, is one of the only players who can hold his head high after providing a threat in the attacking third as a substitute.

Reacting to the moment, Four Lads Had A Dream took to X on Wednesday (24 July), saying: "A quite lovely finish by Scott Wright".

Plymouth Argyle are the latest club interested in signing the 26-year-old, according to David Edgar [24 July], with Sheffield Wednesday and Derby County also targeting him [TEAMtalk].

However, after three years at the club, joining from Aberdeen in 2021, Wright looks to be one of the only players fighting for the shirt during pre-season despite links with a move away.

Life at Ibrox has been quite difficult for the winger, having only made 18 Scottish Premiership starts over the last three seasons, but a resurgence may be on the cards for him ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

Clement is currently in the process of rebuilding his squad after inheriting a group of players from Michael Beale's spending spree, but he must ensure Wright remains at Ibrox this summer.
