Rangers defender James Tavernier has reached an agreement with Trabzonspor as he's set to quit Ibrox, according to Yağız Sabuncuoğlu.

The Sports Digitale journalist took to X on 18 July to claim that a two-year contract with the option of an extra year has been agreed with the Turkish defender.

However, the two clubs are understood to be haggling over the fee with Gers demanding £840,000 more.

Via X, Sabuncuoğlu wrote: " Trabzonspor reached a 2+1 year agreement with James Tavernier. There is a difference of 1 million euros between Trabzonspor's offer and the transfer fee requested by Rangers."

Rangers must get the most money possible for James Tavernier

Trabzonspor aren't the only team that are keen on signing the 32-year-old and even the right-back will be aware of that.

After years of illustrious performances in the Scottish Premiership, he will have his pick from a number of teams.

Thus, his reaching an agreement with the Turkish side will not succeed in strongarming Gers who need to make the most from his sale.

Al-Qadsiah, a super-rich Saudi side, are also keen and they would be able to pay way more than what Trabzonspor are offering. [Scottish Sun, 4 July]

There's also Steven Gerrard who's keen on a reunion [Daily Record, 12 July] and if there are multiple Saudi Pro League games, a bidding war cannot be ruled out.

However, it's fair to state that Tavernier might have played his last game for the Ibrox outfit with a summer exit looking highly likely.
