Sam Lammers transfer development after new developments on Rangers star

Sam Lammers will not be leaving Rangers to return to FC Utrecht after they completed a deal to sign Noah Ohio, according to Jeroen Kapteijns.

Writing on his personal X account (8 July), the journalist reports that the 21-year-old striker has been signed "as Sam Lammers' successor" after his successful loan spell came to an end.

Lammers is still likely to leave Rangers this summer [Rangers Review, 29 May], with AZ Alkmaar showing an interest, but Utrecht now won't be re-signing the 27-year-old permanently after failing to meet the player and Rangers' financial demands.

When Lammers joined the Ibrox club under Michael Beale there were immediate concerns about how he was going to adapt to Scottish football.

He quickly lost the confidence of the fans and Philippe Clement was never a fan of the player, so he was allowed to leave as quickly as he arrived but while back in the Eredivisie he lit the league on fire.

Lammers scored ten goals in 18 appearances in the second half of the season, which shows there is definitely a talented player there but he just doesn't suit what Rangers want and need.

But that doesn't mean he isn't worth at least what the club paid for him 12 months ago, and they shouldn't be bullied into selling for less.

If there's no deal on the table then Clement must find a way to get the best out of him, but ideally someone will come in and strike an agreement for everyone to go their separate ways.
