Tom Lawrence to leave Rangers as Giovanni van Bronckhorst chases Ibrox exit transfer
Tom Lawrence’s career at Rangers hasn’t worked out thanks to injury and he should move on, says Derek Ferguson.
The Welshman is reportedly wanted by Besiktas where he is said to be interested in the move thanks to the presence of former Ibrox manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst [Fanatik, 12 June], who originally brought him to Glasgow and has also been credited with interest in James Tavernier [Bulent Uslu, 9 June].
The 30-year-old missed around half of last season thanks to a series of fitness issues, having seen his debut Gers season destroyed by injury, so despite his ability ex-Light Blues midfielder Ferguson thinks the current transfer window is the time for him to go.
“Tom’s a good player but again injury-wise it’s so tough,” he said speaking exclusively to Ibrox News.
“If there’s interest I’m not sure in terms of what type of money Rangers would accept.
“But again, we thank him, but I don’t think it’s quite worked out for him.
“It’s the best time and, I keep saying it, for a number of others to go. Go and play your football somewhere else.
“Because that manager that we’ve got at the minute, he’s not going to beat around the bush. He wants these guys to be fit, ready and robust enough to play the 35-40 games you need to play at Rangers.”

Philippe Clement tipped to sell injury-ravaged Rangers midfielder
Clement has made clear his frustration with the injury situation at Ibrox on multiple occasions and has already let the frequently-afflicted pair Ryan Jack and Kemar Roofe leave as their contracts expired.
Lawrence only has a year left on his own deal and based on the level of availability he has managed in his Gers career it is hard to see the club sanctioning an extension.
So to avoid losing yet another senior player for nothing all signs point towards a sale in the coming weeks to allow the former Derby County captain a fresh start elsewhere.
In other Rangers news, a multimillion pound “marquee signing” is expected to justify his transfer fee next season with goals.
