Abdallah Sima return to Rangers massive verdict issued as Brighton set for Fabian Hurzeler

Derek Ferguson

At the start of 2024, former Rangers star Derek Ferguson agreed to become Ibrox News' newest pundit. Ferguson started his career at Ibrox, making his league debut for the club aged 17 in a draw against Hearts in 1984. He eventually left Rangers in 1990 after making 91 league appearances and winning two Scottish titles. Ferguson went on to play for the likes of Hearts, Sunderland and Falkirk before retiring after a spell at Raith Rovers in 2006. Now, Ibrox News is delighted to have the former midfielder sharing his weekly thoughts on all things Rangers.

Derek Ferguson would "love" for Rangers to be able to land a second loan deal for Abdallah Sima this summer but expects Brighton to want to "cash in".

The 22-year-old scored 16 times in all competitions during an impressive campaign in Glasgow despite missing significant time to injury, and has indicated that he would personally like to come back.

With the Seagulls about to appoint FC St. Pauli's Fabian Hürzeler as the youngest manager in English Premier League history [Guardian, 10 June] a decision on Sima's future is about to get a major step closer.

Ferguson feels it would be a "massive boost" to bring the Senegal international back to Ibrox as he has shown he has what it takes to be successful but he doesn't rate the Light Blues' chances.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News the pundit said: "He seems to get it up here, he seems to get the fans. He's a guy that's handled the pressure.

"I would love if we could get him on a loan, but Brighton are going to want to cash in on him at some time.

"Listen, he's a good player. But can we get him? No, I doubt it.

"That would be a massive boost if we could get some sort of deal worked out. But I really don't see it to be honest with you."

Abdallah Sima thrived under both Michael Beale and Philippe Clement at Rangers

Rangers
Abdallah Sima has never played for Brighton but scored 16 times on loan at Rangers.

Sima was probably the pick of the attacking options in the Rangers squad last season when fit, and the three months out after picking up an injury in training on international duty likely had a major effect on the final outcome of the season.

It doesn't look like there would be any issues around convincing him to return for a second season in the Scottish Premiership after he said he and his family had settled well at the club.

So it all comes down to money, like so many things, and what Brighton's new manager have planned for him now.
