Besiktas have allocated a budget for the signing of Rangers defender Ridvan Yilmaz, according to Sercan Dikme.

The Sports Digitale journalist has reported that club president Hasan Arat had a conversation with Yilmaz two and a half months ago over a potential return.

However, the left-back wasn't keen on the return to Turkey then, but contact over a move again could accelerate within days.

Why Besiktas want Ridvan Yilmaz to return

Since joining the Glasgow-based outfit in the summer of 2022 for a fee in the region of £5m, Yilmaz has been in and around Rangers' first team.

However, last season the vast majority of his Scottish Premiership appearances came off the bench due to Borna Barisic's dominance in the first-team.

The Croatia international has since departed the club upon the expiry of his contract which has opened the door for Yilmaz to take over.

But, with their first signing of the summer transfer window, Phillipe Clement's men dipped into the market for one of their prior targets, Jefte.

This once again means that the 23-year-old will have to compete for the starting role and could spend another season as back-up, hence why a move is likely to be on the cards.

One key thing which could shift the tide in Besitkas' favour is the fact that Yilmaz wasn't chosen for Turkey's Euro 2024 squad.

So, if he moves back to his home country, he's likely to be played more and once again chosen for his international side.
