Rangers news as Four Lads issue transfer verdict on Penarol midfielder Damian Garcia
Four Lads’ Stevie Clifford believes that Penarol midfielder Damian Garcia is precisely what Rangers need this summer.
It has also been mooted that Nils Koppen might have met with the 20-year-old’s club at a recent transfer summit in Cancun, per Football Scotland on 5 June.
He is understood to be in the midst of a contractual dispute with his club and could leave this summer.
Clifford from Four Lads told the Rangers Review on 6 June at 8:55: “The boy Garcia from Uruguay, he’s obviously been part of the under-20 team for Uruguay that won the World Cup and things like that and the bits I’ve read about him and I can’t pretend to be an expert like I can’t but he is the kind of defensive midfielder that we’re looking for yeah.
“I think it’s no surprise that our midfield as it began to get so many injuries and we lost those players in there the defence looked a lot weaker as well because there was no protection from them and they were making mistakes but it was pretty much easy to run through.”
Rangers must make inroads towards signing Damian Garcia
Speaking about Garcia recently, Uruguayan football expert Alvaro said: “Recently Penarol qualified for the Round of 16, and he had outstanding performances against Argentine and Brazilian teams.”
At 20, the Uruguayan has already established himself in Penarol’s first team and has experience in international youth tournaments.
His defensive capabilities and ability to contribute offensively make him a versatile asset for the Ibrox outfit.
With the departures of key midfielders, the 20-year-old’s arrival would provide much-needed depth and competition in the squad.
Furthermore, his contract situation at Penarol suggests he could be available for a reasonable fee, aligning with Gers’ need to manage their finances effectively.
Hopefully, talks have already taken place and he adds value to this Gers side for the 2024/25 season.
In other Rangers news, a Premier League midfielder with “great quality” is now up for grabs this summer amid a recent development with a move to Ibrox on the cards.
