Rangers showing an interest in Godoy Cruz left-back Thomas Galdames despite signing Jefte may spell the end of Ridvan Yilmaz's time at the club.

Jefte joined as the first signing of the summer and many expected that move to take place with Borna Barisic leaving at the end of his deal.

Given Gers' requirements in other areas of the pitch, namely centre-back, central midfield and attack, it comes as a surprise that Galdames, another left-back is being targeted.

Via Twitter, he wrote: "Tomás Conechny's departure from Godoy Cruz would be joined by that of the Chilean Thomas Galdames, who has offers from abroad. Scottish club Rangers and other Belgian teams would be interested. He has a contract until December but the pass is his. Maybe money will come into Tomba."

Rangers may seek to make a profit on Ridvan Yilmaz if Thomas Galdames joins

According to Sky Sports, Gers secured the services of Yilmaz for a £3.4million fee in 2022 and it's fair to assume after two years, his value has increased.

Rangers Review journalist Chris Jack also reported on 29 May that the Turkey international could attract interest this summer.

Thus, the Galdames interest appears to be a proactive move for Gers and one that could be a financially sound decision for them.

They would look to make a profit on Yilmaz and given what he was bought for, asking a fee north of £5million should not be too much to expect.

He did take his game to the next level in the 2023/24 season and was Philippe Clement's first-choice left-back.

Rather than it reaching a stage where the club are forced to finding a replacement for Yilmaz, it makes sense to have a backup ready in case the defender decides to leave.
