James Tavernier in 3/10 shocker, Fabio Silva MOTM – Rangers player ratings v Kilmarnock
Rangers completed a dramatic 4-1 comeback against the 10 men of Kilmarnock in a crucial Scottish Premiership clash on Sunday (5 May).
Killie opened the scoring through a James Tavernier own goal, deflecting a cross into the back of his own net, which was exacerbated by the full-back’s miss from the penalty spot.
However, Fabio Silva netted with the final touch of the first half before inspired substitutions from Philippe Clement saw Ben Davies and Tom Lawrence fire home to secure all three points, and John Souttar added a late fourth.
Here, Ibrox News rates the Rangers players out of 10 for their performances against Kilmarnock.
Rangers recover after James Tavernier shock start
Jack Butland – 5
Little the shot-stopper could do to stop Tavernier’s own goal, having been lost under the flight of Liam Polworth’s cross. Barely touched the ball after Kilmarnock’s sending-off.
James Tavernier – 3
Extremely unlucky to score an own goal after just 12 minutes, deflecting the ball into his own net. Had a chance at redemption from the penalty spot but saw his effort saved by Will Dennis. Regained his confidence throughout the match.
Leon Balogun (Off for Ben Davies 46′) – 5
Like Butland, there was little Balogun could do to stop Kilmarnock from opening the scoring. Was replaced at the break, which turned out to be a stroke of genius as Davies put Rangers ahead.
John Souttar – 5
Wasteful with a shot from long range as well as inside the six-yard box. Won his challenges when needed but left much to be desired in the attacking third. Finally hit the back of the net with a late header.
Borna Barisic (Off for Ridvan Yilmaz 79′) – 4
A relatively quiet game on the left flank. Considering Rangers’ dominance against the 10 men of Kilmarnock, the left-back was very wasteful with crosses. Registered the fewest number of passes into the final third out of the entire back four.
Fabio Silva the unlikely hero against Kilmarnock
John Lundstram (Off for Nico Raskin 79′) – 8
Dictated the midfield well as frustrations grew against Kilmarnock. Delivered a perfect cross for Silva to grab a timely equaliser. If this is to be Lundstram’s last season at Ibrox, he wants to end on a high.
Mohamed Diomande – 6
Played a couple of nice passes forward and connected well with Cantwell. Suffered a little against Kilmarnock’s low block but was unlucky not to see one of his efforts hit the back of the net.
Dujon Sterling (Off for Ross McCausland 68′) – 6
Always a fan favourite at Ibrox, being a utility player for Clement. Caused havoc for Corrie Ndaba down the right flank, bursting into the Kilmarnock half any chance he got.
Todd Cantwell (Off for Tom Lawrence 68′) – 6
Grew into the game as time went on. Put his all into pushing Rangers up the pitch, leading by example, and having to be substituted early after emptying the tank very early on.
Fabio Silva – 9
Huge relief as Silva finally hit the back of the net with the last kick of the first half. Unlucky not to claim an assist for winning a penalty, with Tavernier seeing his spot-kick saved.
Cyriel Dessers – 4
Failed to make much impact against the defensive partnership of Lewis Mayo and Stuart Findlay. Poor first touch in the Killie penalty area, spending most of the time with his hands in the air.

Substitutes
Ben Davies (On for Balogun 46′) – 8
Replaced Balogun at half-time, coming on the make a huge impact. Was an unlikely goalscorer as Rangers completed the comeback at Ibrox to keep up the chase on Celtic.
Tom Lawrence (On for Cantwell 68′) – 7
Rocketed home to secure all three points for the Gers. Does exactly what the Ibrox faithful know he is capable of but has been hindered by injury since arriving in Scotland.
Ross McCausland (On for Sterling 68′) – N/A
Ridvan Yilmaz (On for Barisic 79′) – N/A
Nico Raskin (On for Lundstram 79′) – N/A
