Keith Jackson believes Rangers can still beat Celtic to the Scottish Premiership title despite their "woeful" display against Ross County.

The Gers fell to their first-ever defeat against Ross County on Sunday (14 April) as they were beaten 3-2 at the Global Energy Stadium.

It was a shocking result which felt like a real season-defining moment for Rangers but despite what happened, Jackson still believes that the Scottish Premiership title could be headed to Ibrox this season.

Jackson wrote (via Daily Record, 15 April), "It's not necessarily the end of the road for Rangers. It’s entirely possible that they might still gather themselves and make something meaningful of the run-in to the line.

"But, even so, it did feel like quite a moment in this two-horse race and one almighty capitulation in the Highlands as Philippe Clement’s players turned in a woeful apology of a performance and got exactly what they deserved for it as a consequence."

Rangers leave themselves with a mountain to climb after defeat against Ross County

Clement will be left scratching his head and wondering what exactly went wrong against Ross County on Sunday.

Rangers had gone 24 games without a loss against the Staggies, and this historic defeat couldn't have arrived at a less convenient time for the Gers.

Clement's side now have it all to do if they are to beat Celtic to the Scottish Premiership, and while Jackson is right to suggest that the title race is by no means over, this felt as close to a knockout blow for Rangers as it gets.

The Gers are on the ropes, and Brendan Rodgers' side would have been boosted by this upset defeat.

In theory, both teams still have it in their hands. If Rangers were to win every one of their games between now and the end of the season, including against Celtic, they would be crowned champions.

However, confidence will be low at Ibrox after this most recent defeat, and Clement must now pick his players up and ensure they are ready to go against Dundee on Wednesday (17 April), should that match finally go ahead.
