Rangers: Hearts captain Lawrence Shankland to 'jump at the chance' of move to Ibrox
Lawrence Shankland would "jump at the chance" to move to Rangers if a transfer comes up this summer, according to Derek Ferguson.
The Hearts captain has been linked to an Ibrox move since before the January transfer window and will have a year left on his Tynecastle contract at the end of the season, when a deal has been tipped to happen.
Ferguson accepts the striker, who has netted 27 goals so far this term for the Jambos, is in a "good place" at his current club and won't rock the boat.
But he's convinced that the Light Blues fan would be eager to join the club if given the opportunity and feels it is a deal Philippe Clement and the recruitment department should be looking to do.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News he said: “He’s a Rangers supporter. He’s a talented player. He scores goals for fun in our league. For me, I’ve always said it’s a no-brainer. It comes down to money as a lot of things do.
“He’s just in a good place at this moment in time with Hearts, but if that opportunity was to come by I think he would jump at the chance to be honest with you.
“I think he wants to win things, and you’ve got more chance of winning medals and trophies if you’re at a Rangers or a Celtic up here.
“He’ll say all the right things. He’s the Hearts captain and he’ll lead by example.
“But I’m sure if the two clubs could agree a fee I don’t think Lawrence Shankland would be too difficult to deal with in terms of coming to Rangers Football Club.”
Scotland striker ready to leave Tynecastle for Rangers?
Shankland may have hit the bar with his golden opportunity in the national team against the Netherlands on Friday night (22 March) but he has been hitting the net with regularity in the SPFL.
It remains to be seen whether Cyriel Dessers, Fabio Silva and contributions from Kemar Roofe when fit will be enough to fire Rangers to the title but movement at the position is almost certain in the summer.
Roofe will likely leave when his contract is up and Silva's loan will finish, while Danilo will return from injury.
While the Brazilian's presence will be welcome the squad will likely need a new striker even if Dessers stays and given his contract situation in Edinburgh Shankland looks like he could be an increasingly affordable answer.
He recently admitted he would find certain opportunities tempting and the fact he hasn't agreed a new Hearts deal seemingly suggests the door is open in the upcoming market.
