Rangers: Major frustration at another Ibrox injury blow after Dujon Sterling stuns pundit

Derek Ferguson

At the start of 2024, former Rangers star Derek Ferguson agreed to become Ibrox News' newest pundit. Ferguson started his career at Ibrox, making his league debut for the club aged 17 in a draw against Hearts in 1984. He eventually left Rangers in 1990 after making 91 league appearances and winning two Scottish titles. Ferguson went on to play for the likes of Hearts, Sunderland and Falkirk before retiring after a spell at Raith Rovers in 2006. Now, Ibrox News is delighted to have the former midfielder sharing his weekly thoughts on all things Rangers.

Dujon Sterling has "a lot to like about" him at Rangers and has really impressed many fans, according to Derek Ferguson.

The former Gers player is delighted by the impact that the former Chelsea man has had since arriving on a free transfer in the summer, making it a "real frustration" that he is one of latest key players to have been ruled out by injury.

Sterling, 24, limped off holding his hamstring in the 2-0 Scottish Cup victory over Hibs, but not before winning a penalty that wasn't controversial to anyone but Michael Stewart.

The utility man has already been tipped to make the club a "fortune" when he leaves but Ferguson hopes that is a long way off yet.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox New he said: "It's just a real frustration that he picked up a wee niggling injury last week in the cup game, but oh God, I think me like a lot of Rangers supporters are well impressed with him.

"There's a lot to like about the boy, so I'm just hoping that he's going to have a future at Rangers for a long time."

Philippe Clement has relied on Dujon Sterling in key moments for Rangers.

Rangers deprived of breakout star in latest Ibrox injury headache for Philippe Clement

Sterling has become invaluable already under Philippe Clement, having been crucial in midfield to win the Viaplay Cup, and then scored his first senior goal as a winger away at Benfica in the Europa League.

His absence for the return leg at Ibrox is arguably part of the reason why Rangers went out of the competition in a tight game.

The squad has fought on multiple fronts and clawed back the advantage in the title race while securing a trophy, but there is undoubtedly an issue with injury set backs at Auchenhowie as the manager has regularly remarked upon, so it is majorly frustrating for another key man to be caught up in it.
