Rangers v Motherwell: Neil Lennon and Kris Boyd dispute Ibrox incident live on Sky Sports
Neil Lennon suggested the penalty awarded to Rangers in their defeat to Motherwell was very soft as he questioned Kris Boyd’s assessment live on Sky Sports.
The two pundits were speaking live on the broadcaster’s pre-match coverage of Celtic’s trip to Hearts on 3 March as they discussed the Light Blues’ surprise 2-1 home loss a day earlier.
Fabio Silva had won a penalty in the second half after a VAR review, which was scored by James Tavernier to draw the home side level at the time, but ex-Hoops boss Lennon made clear he wasn’t convinced.
Boyd said (11.06am): “The penalty, it is a little bit soft but we’ve seen them given.”
Lennon cut in: “A little bit?”
“We’re not starting already are we?” Boyd replied to laughter from Eilidh Barbour.
Neil Lennon claims Rangers given soft penalty decision at Ibrox
The Wolves loanee nicked the ball past a pair of Well defenders and was knocked down in the box which is always risking a penalty concession.
It is hotly disputed whenever the Light Blues do or don’t get a spot kick currently so it is little surprise that Lennon wanted to question this one.
Ultimately it made no difference either way as a very flat performance against Stuart Kettlewell’s men ended the excellent winning run that had turned the title race around.
The shock defeat has given Celtic the chance to go back top at Tynecastle, proving the title race was far from won after going two points clear.

It was a thoroughly deflating Saturday and if Rangers finish the weekend back in second they will certainly need to find a strong response.
Motherwell’s Lennon Miller has recently been tipped recently for an Ibrox switch but his performance at Ibrox, and particularly Blair Spittal’s, threw a major spanner into the works of the Gers title push and Philippe Clement has another job to do to get things back on track as soon as possible.
