Steven Davis returned to Ibrox on Saturday 2 March as Rangers welcomed Motherwell to town in the Scottish Premiership.

The retired midfielder was interviewed pitchside ahead of kick-off, with fans lifting up tifos to celebrate his famous career in Govan.

It wasn't a fairytale ending on the day though, with Motherwell somehow leaving with all three points in a 2-1 defeat for the home side.

David Edgar has shared images of the event on X, admitting there were sad scenes: "Sir Steven Davis. I'm very emotional."

Steven Davis back at Rangers and Ibrox

The Northern Irishman enjoyed a sensational career at Ibrox over two spells, and he has been rightly celebrated since retiring, but more can be done.

Injuries did not help his cause this season with a managerial spell also in there before Philippe Clement was given the role to take Rangers top of the league.

The Belgian didn't need to be here long either to know how much Davis has done throughout his career and at Ibrox specifically.

He would not have been happy with what he saw on the pitch, with a calm influencing figure in the middle of the park something that was missing.

Nico Raskin has been nowhere near his old self in recent weeks, and he was dragged off with Davis watching on from the stands at Ibrox.

Hopefully, this is nothing more than a blip.
