Gordon Duncan says Rangers boss Philippe Clement is "very happy" with the news that Jack Butland is expected to be called up by England.

Butland is in line to be included in the Three Lions' squad for their upcoming friendlies against Brazil and Belgium.

That would be a just reward for Butland, who has proved to be a superb signing for the Gers since joining as a free agent last summer.

Speaking on Sky Sports News from Auchenhowie [27 February, 3:59pm], Duncan said: "Philippe Clement is understandably very happy with that recognition may it come.

"He's kept 17 league clean sheets. It's worth bearing in mind that club legend Allan McGregor retired last summer and left huge gloves to be filled.

"Butland has been very reliable, behind a reliable defence, and has been praised time and time again."

Rangers keeper Jack Butland in line for England call-up

Butland's 17 clean sheets in the Scottish Premiership this season is four more than any other goalkeeper in the division.

For context, Celtic's Joe Hart has 11 clean sheets from just one game less this season. Hearts stopper Zander Clark is second on the list with 13.

While he may only have to make one or two saves a game in some matches, Butland is always alert and has made some superb stops.

Rangers star Jack Butland has Everton's Jordan Pickford to get past in the England goal.

England have an obvious first-choice keeper heading into Euro 2024 in Jordan Pickford, but the other two spots are up for grabs.

If Butland can maintain his club form and get an opportunity against Brazil or Belgium next month, he will be on the flight to Germany.

From a selfish point of view, it would be nice to see all the players rest up over the summer, but nobody can begrudge Butland this opportunity if it arrives.
