Rangers manager Philippe Clement has confirmed that Todd Cantwell will be sidelined with injury for a "few weeks" ahead of the Gers clash with Hearts.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference on Friday (23 February) the Belgian confirmed that the English attacking midfielder would miss Saturday's (24 February) clash with Hearts as he begins a spell on the treatment table.

Cantwell was removed after 60 minutes in the Light Blues' 3-0 win over St Johnstone last time out, but Clement has confirmed that the Gers will be boosted by the return of Kemar Roofe when they face Steven Naismith's side.

As quoted by Rangers on X (23 February) Clement said: "Todd Cantwell will be out for a few weeks which is disappointing but that is football. Kemar Roofe has trained this week and he will be in the squad for tomorrow.

Will Todd Cantwell be fit for Rangers against Hearts

It is a huge blow for Clement and Rangers that they will be without Cantwell for their clash with Hearts on Saturday as the Englishman has finally begun to rediscover his best form under the Belgian as a key part of his squad.

At his best, the 25-year-old can win the Gers a match single-handily with his excellent ability on the ball and a creative spark to his game that few players at Ibrox are capable of. Losing him at this stage of the season is a huge blow.

However, the positive side of the news is the fact that Clement only expects the English midfielder to be sidelined for a couple of weeks, suggesting it is a much more minor issue than the ones that have hit Abdallah Sima or Danilo.

The return of Kemar Roofe is a huge boost as well. Hopefully, the Jamaican international will be able to take some of the pressure off of Cyriel Dessers at the top end of the pitch and chip in with a few goals between now and the end of the season.
