Rangers and Philippe Clement will be laughing as former boss Michael Beale is set to be sacked by Sunderland already after a poor run of results, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The journalist shared the update via his X account on 19 February and reported that the decision has already been made, with an official statement now expected.

Sunderland have won just three of their nine games since the turn of their year, with their play-off hopes taking a huge hit after a shock 2-1 defeat to struggling Birmingham.

To make matters worse for Beale, that Birmingham side was managed by Tony Mowbray, the man he was hired to replace at the Stadium of Light.

Rangers fans could have told you the direction this appointment was likely to go when Beale was hired by the Black Cats, with some of the same old mistakes cropping up yet again.

Another issue Sunderland have faced under Beale's management has been the lack of width, despite the wingers having previously played key roles in their side, with the likes of Jack Clarke completely nullified in Beale's system.

That was a problem Rangers also faced, leaving Clement with an unbalanced squad - something he had complained about before the January transfer window allowed him to rectify those issues.

Damning footage emerged following Sunderland's defeat to Birmingham which showed Beale ignoring the handshake of full-back Trai Hume, which added even more fuel to the fire.

With Gers still trying to clear up the mess Beale left behind when he departed after a terrible summer transfer window, they will have been pleased to see the back of him, as will Sunderland fans now.
