Michael Beale rang Jose Cifuentes on deadline day as he tried to sign the Rangers ace for Sunderland, according to Alan Nixon.

The Sun journalist reported on his Patreon on Sunday (4 February) that the former Gers boss, who signed the Ecuadorian at Ibrox last summer, has failed in his bid to persuade him to make the move to the English Championship club.

He added that the 24-year-old wanted to go and join Brazilian side Cruzeiro as they look set to be closing in on a deal for the midfielder.

Michael Beale should keep away from Rangers

It's becoming pretty clear that Beale should just stay away from Rangers after enduring a miserable time at the club following his sacking in October.

The Englishman has landed on his feet pretty well by securing the Sunderland job, but nothing seems to go right for him when it in involves his former club.

It's no surprise to see that he went in for Cifuentes, but it must've been a real blow when the midfielder made his intentions clear that he wanted to head to Brazil.

Rangers
Jose Cifuentes' days at Rangers are numbered.

The move should give the Ecuadorian the chance to get his career back on track in what should be a more comfortable environment for him back in South America.

It appears as though he is now closing in on the temporary switch after Fabrizio Romano revealed on Sunday that a deal has now been verbally agreed between the two clubs.
