Rangers: Ibrox transfer business may not be over after Philippe Clement comments today

Philippe Clement has suggested that there could still be some activity at Rangers beyond the closing of the January transfer window.

The period for Scottish clubs to finalise their incoming business for the rest of the season expired late on Thursday (1 February).

Rangers brought in Fabio Silva right at the start of the window, while Oscar Cortes and Mohamed Diomande were also signed.

In terms of departures, Sam Lammers was sent to Utrecht on loan and Adam Devine joined Motherwell for the rest of the campaign.

Despite strong rumours linking the likes of Ridvan Yilmaz, Cyriel Dessers and Jose Cifuentes with the exit, each of those remain at Ibrox.

For now, at least. Speaking at his weekly news conference on Friday (2 February), Clement confirmed Cifuentes may still yet depart.

“I don’t know. There is interest,” Clement said when asked if Cifuentes in particular will still be a Rangers player in the coming weeks.

“Cifu is also interested but there is no deal yet so we will see. He has a terrific mentality.”

According to Ecuagol [1 February], Cifuentes remains a target for Cruzeiro, with Brazilian clubs having another month to sign new players.

Going by Clement’s comments, he would not be too disappointed at losing the central midfielder if that does prove to be the case.

The Gers have other options in that department, not lease new recruit Diomande, who looks like he could be a real gem.

Even though the transfer window has technically shut for Scottish clubs, do not be surprised to see more outgoing movement in the coming days.

In other Rangers news, a warning has been sent to Ross McCausland after a development this week.
