Jack Butland highlighted as Rangers and Celtic squad comparison made
Alison McConnell has named Jack Butland as the Rangers player she believes would make it into the best XI of rivals Celtic.
Butland has been in superb form for the Gers since joining on a free transfer ahead of the 2023-24 campaign.
Celtic number one Joe Hart, meanwhile, continues to show weaknesses in his game.
Discussing which Rangers players would make it into the Celtic side on PLZ Soccer’s The Football Show [2 February, 19m 12s], Herald Scotland journalist McConnell said: “If you were to compare the two squads at the minute, you could make a strong argument for Jack Butland.”
England recall possible for Butland
It is unclear if Butland is the only player McConnel believes is good enough to make it into Celtic’s line-up, but if so that is way off the mark.
As for Butland, though, there is no question that he is the better of the two when compared with Hart.
Indeed, there have been reports over the past week that the former Stoke City goalkeeper is now in contention for an England recall, while English clubs are reportedly showing an interest.
Rangers’ summer transfer business was questionable to say the least, but Butland has been superb and the club deserve praise for landing him.

All-in-all, Butland has 14 clean sheets in 22 Scottish Premiership appearances this season – three more than next-best Hart.
If the other members of Philippe Clement’s squad are to receive more recognition, it is now a case of stepping up and overhauling Celtic.
Achieve that and there can be no debate as to who has the better squad.
