Severe Abdallah Sima update emerges as Rangers want permanent transfer now

Rangers want to make Abdallah Sima’s stay at Ibrox permanent now after a severe update emerged about the Brighton loanee’s future, according to The Athletic.

The outlet reported on its website on Monday (1 January) that Philippe Clement’s side are keen to agree a permanent deal to keep the 22-year-old in Glasgow beyond the end of his current loan deal, which expires at the end of the season.

However, such a permanent deal is unlikely to be agreed during the January transfer window, as Robert De Zerbi’s Brighton side has been “severely stretched” by a current injury crisis, meaning imminent outgoings are unlikely.

This situation is set to change in the summer, when the Seagulls will make decisions about the futures of players out on loan, such as Sima.

Get it done

Following a summer of plenty of investment, particularly into the forward line, at Ibrox, Abdallah Sima has been one of only a couple of Michael Beale signings to impress supporters and live up to the expectations placed upon him.

The Senegal international has made the left wing role his own under Philippe Clement and although his form has been streaky, particularly in front of goal, he has shown that he has all the skills required to be a genuine difference-maker at the top end of the pitch.

It could take a big fee to prise him away from Brighton permanently, but it feels as though Rangers would be stupid to miss out on the opportunity to sign the 22-year-old, no matter what price they have to pay in the summer.

Cyriel Dessers, Sam Lammers and Danilo have shown that goalscoring forwards are not easy to find in the Scottish Premiership and it would be incredibly naive of the Light Blues if they allow their best finisher to depart Ibrox at the end of the season without putting up a fight.

Hopefully, Brighton’s severe injury situation will have eased by then and both teams can reach some sort of agreement to ensure that Sima remains a Rangers player for years to come yet.
