Scott Brown shares Celtic admission ahead of Rangers v Aberdeen Viaplay Cup final clash

Every Celtic supporter will be hoping that Aberdeen defeat Rangers in the Viaplay Cup final, according to Scott Brown.

The former midfielder, who played for both Celtic and Aberdeen, shared the admission ahead of the match at Hampden Park.

Rangers meet Aberdeen at the national stadium on Sunday (17 December), in what is Philippe Clement’s first final as Gers manager.

Rangers

“I’m sure every Celtic fan will be watching the game and hoping just as much as I am that Aberdeen win this game,” said Brown, as quoted by the Daily Record (11 December).

“Rangers have to win this final. For the fans, the manager… they need to put that pressure on themselves. Everybody expects Rangers to come here and go and win the game except the Aberdeen fans who expect their side to win.

“Barry Robson will expect to win too. It’s a lot of pressure on a young manager but he wants to be a top manager with that pressure and he will thrive off that.”

Huge clash

Brown may have moved on from Celtic, but the former Hoops man has unsurprisingly had one more dig at Rangers before their big cup final clash with the Dons.

The former midfielder will unsurprisingly be rooting for Robson’s men at Hampden, but it is Clement’s side who go into the match as favourites.

That does, however, mean all the pressure is on Clement, who has been given an early chance to lift silverware at the Ibrox club.

He has enjoyed himself so far in the Ibrox dugout, with the Belgian now unbeaten from his first 12 matches at the club.

The manager does, however, have a hugely tricky test against Real Betis up first, with Rangers travelling to Spain on Thursday (14 December) for their Europa League group stage decider.

Gers fans will be desperate for the visitors to come out on top in that one, but at the same time they will not want the players to be too fatigued for the clash with Aberdeen just three days later.

In other Rangers news, a BBC Sport journalist has mooted a Viaplay Cup final start for one Gers ace after injury news at the Ibrox club.
