Rangers: Sky Sports pundit wowed by ‘tremendous’ Ibrox board as January transfers mooted

Lee McCulloch has been impressed by the “tremendous” job Philippe Clement has done since taking over as Rangers manager.

Clement has gone unbeaten in 12 games since replacing Michael Beale as Ibrox boss in October, winning nine of those.

Former Gers midfielder McCulloch believes the Belgian will only improve Rangers further if backed in the January transfer window.

Discussing the Scottish Premiership title race in an interview with Sky Sports, McCulloch said: “I think Celtic would be favourites still with the experience they’ve got in the dressing room of winning the league, with the manager they’ve got and the experience he’s had of winning the Scottish league and that treble treble.

“It’s just good to see Rangers progressing, progressing in the right way under a tremendous manager and I think given time for him to put his stamp in the squad, then it’ll be a lot closer.

“He’s working with another manager’s players and he’s got the best out of the bulk of players. I think if you look back at some of the signings, they were looking a little bit short on confidence and now they’re playing with a bit of confidence and a swagger.

“He’s been unlucky with injury in certain areas of the pitch so I would imagine he’ll be wanting to strengthen in a couple of positions.”

Back him

Clement has indeed done a tremendous job across his first couple of months at the Ibrox helm.

The club took their time in making an appointment, and that now looks like being a wise choice as the ex-Monaco gaffer has proved to be worth the wait.

Players who simply could not get going under Beale now look like adept footballers all of a sudden, which can only be put down to good management.

Now that Clement has showed he knows how to get a tune out of players, it is only fair the club back him in January with at least one new signing.

Clement will no doubt have targets in mind, with a wide player possibly on his radar, and also a holding midfielder if the injury situation in that position does not clear up.

With another couple of players brought in, there is no reason why Rangers cannot take the title race all the way.
