Sam Lammers says it was "normal" to receive criticism from Rangers supporters when results were not going well, but the forward feels he is now on his way to winning them over.

The summer signing from Atalanta has been a regular in the number 10 position under both Michael Beale and successor Philippe Clement, despite his lack of goals and assists.

Fans have previously made their frustration towards Lammers clear, while speaking earlier this week, pundit Derek Ferguson told Open Goal he is baffled as to why the Dutchman keeps getting selected.

Asked about the criticism he and fellow newbie Cyriel Dessers have faced, Lammers is quoted by the Daily Record [11 November] as saying: "This is normal in a club like this. We had some bad results. It is not the first time. It is logical that fans are getting impatient and they search for explanations.

"To be honest, I didn’t see much of it. But for me it is normal that the fans are not happy when we don’t get results. But now it is night and day. I feel the energy from the fans and hopefully it is the other way round as well.

"You can see we are building something with this team. You could see the reaction from the fans on Thursday night. Directly after the Sparta Prague goal, I could feel that they felt as well that we needed their support."

Not enough

Results have picked up drastically for Rangers under Clement, but Lammers is still not having near enough of an impact on games.

The former Netherlands Under-21 international did recently score and assist in the 5-0 win over Dundee, but that was seemingly a one-off.

Indeed, in the 22 games he has played for the Gers since joining, Lammers has registered a goal involvement in just two matches.

All that said, Rangers are not doing too badly right now on the results front and Lammers did play his part in the win over Sparta Prague.

The question is whether Clement gambles by potentially shifting Todd Cantwell inside and bringing in another right-sided attacker.

For now, it is likely that Lammers will retain his place in the side for the Scottish Premiership trip to Livingston on Sunday (12 November).

Should the Gers fail to win that one and Lammers have a minimal impact, though, then his place in the side is surely in jeopardy.
