Rangers defender Johnly Yfeko signs new Ibrox contract
Rangers defender Johnly Yfeko has signed a new contract at Ibrox, keeping him at the club until the summer of 2026.
According to the club’s B Team Twitter handle, the deal was officially announced on 10 November.
The 20-year-old made his first-team debut against Greenock Morton in the Viaplay Cup in August which Gers won 2-1.
Good news
By committing youngsters to long contracts, clubs can groom and shape their skills over time, maximizing their potential and increasing their market value.
This is perhaps one of the reasons why Rangers have looked to add three more years to his deal and it certainly would’ve come with a pay hike.
Additionally, long-term contracts protect clubs from losing their investments prematurely. If a young player develops into a top talent, having a lengthy contract acts as a deterrent for other clubs seeking to poach the player, ensuring that the selling club receives substantial transfer fees if they decide to let the player go.

Longer contracts also offer clubs leverage in negotiations and enable them to dictate terms in the transfer market, safeguarding their interests and long-term competitiveness.
In essence, securing promising youngsters to lengthy contracts is a strategic move that combines player development, financial stability, and control over the transfer market.
In other Rangers news, a BBC pundit has claimed that a Gers first-team player will jump at the chance to leave Ibrox as a transfer story has emerged recently.
